Justcanals.com ~> Holiday F.A.Qs This page aims to be useful to people who are thinking about booking a holiday: To go back to the main canal holiday page click here To ask us a question please go to the contact us page. Where can get information on booking a holiday?: Please click here to view our "Booking a holiday" page. What is so good about the canals?: Please click here to view our "Why are canals so good" page. Is there a big, detailed listing of all the canal holiday companies in the UK?: Yes, Please visit our brand new comprehensive online guide which covers all the hire boat, trip boat & hotel boat companies that we know of. To visit now please click here [Coming soon] How safe is boating on the Inland Waterways of Britain?: Boating on the UK canals & rivers is perfectly safe when you are sensible, following advice of others such as British Waterways employees and when you are boating in the correct, calm conditions. However when you are not complying to the previously mentioned risks can occur such as someone falling into the water and drowning or being squashed between the bank and the very heavy narrowboat. For more information please see our "Safety while cruising & how to operate a narrowboat" section. click here How large is the canal system?: The UK inland waterways can be found all over the country (apart from the very South West of England where there are hardly any). The inland waterways are over 2000 miles long: thus giving a huge choice of places to boat in. There are lots of guides which can be bought that cover all of the UK waterways. Please see our shop and reviews sections. Is it going to cost me a fortune?: It won't cost you a fortune no, but prices DO change pending on the: Hire boat company, Class of boat that you are want (e.g.: size), How long you want it for & when you want it. Many companies have a "peak" period which is during the summer holidays - this is when you will find the highest prices! What do I do if I have been on a holiday and really enjoyed it?: Many people who have only been on one boating holiday really take to it and want to go further like get a share in a narrowboat or buying their own boat. However we do advice against this if you have been only been on one boating holiday. We always advice that you should really try to go on another holiday before jumping in at the deep end. This is because experiences can change! I live in the south of England but I really want to go on the Scottish canals.. what should I do?: If you can't face the really long drive (about a day) to Scotland - you can always fly! The really cheap airline EasyJet flies from Bristol & Stansted. From Bristol it will only take you around a hour (or even less) to get to Glasgow (near the Falkirk Wheel). What do I need to take with me on a boating holiday?: This really depends on what is provided by the hire company. However in general you will need to take clothes with you that can get mucky and dirty, with their warmth pending on the weeks weather. Food wise you will need to take this with you however some companies can provide your groceries for you. Do they have TVs on boats?: Most hire boats do indeed have TV however due to canals being in valleys in some cases TV reception may be rather 'limited' To ask us a question please go to the contact us page. |
